Why Self-sustainable Community?

       The "exodus" of thousands of the foreign residents and citizens from the Tokyo International Airport due to the threat of radiation was very alarming. Others who joined the long line of departing passengers to board the airlines bound to other countries had more reasons to leave Japan because of their traumatic experiences from the earthquakes, tsunamis and aftershocks which hit northeastern prefectures and as far as Tokyo. Furthermore, water and electricity were cut off. Foods, groceries and other necessities were unavailable within 20 or more kilometers radius of the cities and towns which the mega earthquakes and tsunamis destroyed heavily.

       Britain and the U.S.A. chartered flights for their citizens to relocate away from Japan, while China ordered their citizens to move to Tokyo first and then they evacuated later out of Japan. Commercial airline tickets were high in demand but scarce. Some companies hired private jets to evacuate their staff. Other foreign governments urged their nationals to move far away south of northeastern Japan and get out of Tokyo. "If you're in Tokyo or any of the affected prefectures... we are saying that you should depart," Mr. Kevin Rudd said, the Australian Foreign Minister. Also, France, Germany and New Zealand were some of the countries that urged their citizens to fly out of Tokyo, Japan.

       When you carefully observe and ponder the enormous loss of lives, the numbers of missing persons, the widespread devastation in northeastern Japan, you have to rethink few times on the deadly and destructive natural forces. They could strike any week or month where you live and work right now. You need to consider your priorities in life after you watched the CNN coverage for several days on the 8.9 earthquake, tsunamis, aftershocks, explosions and fires at the nuclear power plants. You need to learn that an American official urged all the citizens to get out at least 50-mile radius away from the fire-stricken and destroyed containment building in the nuclear power plants. You need to plan some options and prepare to survive for the next mega disasters.

       When or what if the big earthquakes, tsunamis, aftershocks hit Metro Manila someday? The low level Ninoy Aquino International Airport might be flooded or unoperable. The piers or seaports might be destroyed. The north and south super highways and the flyovers or overpasses, and other bridges and streets might also be devastated and impossible to pass through for weeks and months. The local and international aid, assistance and help might not come in the next few days or weeks. You will surely be marooned together with about 20 million population in Metro Manila. Then, what should you do right now before the "signs of the times" get worst? What are your contingency plans for the 11th-hour scenarios?

       Although we still consider ourselves as an organizing intentional community, we had planned the self-sustainable community as early as 1970 after we attended and heard the very inspiring and thought-provoking messages, participated in the activities, and experienced other things during the Feast of Tabernacles in Baguio City. However, some of the long time Sabbath-keepers had observed the Feast of Tabernacles (Leviticus 23:24) at the historical or landmark camp for the past 45 plus years. So much so that about 800 members, individuals and families, guests and visitors had witnessed the World Chess Champion Robert "Bobby" Fischer when he observed the Feast of Tabernacles at the Baguio Teachers' Camp in the mid-1970s.

       The government-owned camp has 47 cottages in the sprawling area, each cottage can accommodate between two and five persons. The 11 dormitories can lodge over one thousand people. "For business executives and administrators the Baguio Teachers Camp offers the use of several conference halls and function rooms, which have room for up to one thousand people. In addition to these, there are two dining areas that can hold up to 700 individuals. Of course, food and drinks are available.

       "The origin of the Baguio Teachers Camp can be traced back to the then Governor of Benguet, William Pack. In 1907 he had written to W. Moran Shuster of the Public Instruction Department about setting up a place where teachers could meet. Thus the camp was created. The place became the meeting area for teachers, professors and personnel of the Education Bureau. During the early days, the American teachers stayed in tents." From its founding in 1908, the camp was improved. By 1910, "traversing the Teachers' Camp had been made easier as roads were paved and constructed."

       The Baguio Teachers' Camp has playgrounds in which the globally famous Congressman Manny Pacquiao utilized to train for his next boxing match. (By the way while in Los Angeles to train for few weeks more prior to his next championship tournament, Congressman Pacquiao sang with Will Ferrell, a Hollywood movie and TV celebrity, during Jimmy Kimmel's ABC TV show.  Rep. Pacquiao also sang in a previous Kimmel's show.) Its entire camp is surrounded with pine and other trees, some flower gardens and many other varieties of plants. It is a hiking distance to the Presidential Mansion, Camp John Hay, Baguio Botanical Garden, SM Mega Mall, groceries, restaurants, retail and general merchandise stores, public market, or downtown Baguio City. From the camp, you can ride the public transportation to see or experience the top attractions for tourists and visitors in the Summer Capital of the Philippines. The Baguio Teachers' Camp is 103 years old!

The self-sustainable community

       Since 1996, our community in Southern Leyte has a small beach resort with no lodging yet. It is very much similar to that of a small public park by the sea. It has several coconut and talisay trees, a mango, caimito, santol, tamarind tree, and few other trees for shades. We have three bungalow type buildings, two of which need complete renovation and repair. The beachfront property is big enough to build a 50-room inn or condotel so as to have a source of additional income for the self-sustainable community. However, we do not have the funds to build the inn or condotel.

       Our agricultural lands are separate; they are about 17 to 25 kilometers up in the mountain of Maasin City - a much larger city in total land area than that of Cebu City. We are hoping and praying that some interested brethren and other Bible-believing Christians would have their own finances, careers, professions or skills, and that they would build their own cottages or housing within our agricultural lands. We are also praying to find other land owners who are willing to exchange our agricultural lands with their properties or have them leased to us, and perhaps they would miraculously donate their idle agricultural lands for the self-sustainable community.

       We have been planning to establish the self-sustainable community in the ideal location, which should be a biking and hiking distance to downtown Maasin. It could be in separate properties but close enough to be walking or hiking distances to each others' sources of income. Our 7th Millennium Community would be composed of a retreat or conference center like the Baguio Teachers' Camp, small healthy and organic food stores, restaurants and shops, gardens for crops, vegetables, fruit trees and flowers, some cottage industries, a general consulting enterprise, and other suitable production of goods and services as our sources of livelihood for the Biblical community. In addition, we would like to emulate the excellent examples on self-sustainable living of the Hutterian Brethren, Amish, some of the Mennonites, and to create a haven for the called-out ones to tap their creativity and full potential.

       So far we have over 25 foreign brethren and friends who wrote to express their interests to visit or join our community. However, they too are waiting for the facilities to be built before they would like to come in, which is understandable knowing their standards of living. One of us was blessed with the open doors to attend and/or visit around 17 Christian camps, retreat and conference centers, and intentional communities in California, Arizona, Washington, Hawaii, Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, Colorado, Idaho in the U.S.A., and in Mexico. So, we knew. We figured that majority of those living in the Philippines who would like to come in will do so at the ELEVENTH HOUR. One beloved Irish pastor, who had managed his schedules on time and traveled by car, other vehicles and the airlines for 10 years to so many of the 7107 islands during his assignment in the Philippines, asked: "What does PAL mean"? This writer answered, "Philippines Air Lines". The Irish pastor said, "No... It is Philippines always late"!

11th-Hour Procrastinators

       When the economic crisis, climate or Earth changes and other inevitable crises will, not if, happen severely in the big cities and towns in many of our 7107-island country, they have no option but to evacuate and become refugees. Most of the Filipinos and other citizens in the Asian neighborhood, and as far as the U.S.A., Canada, Europe, Scandinavia, Russian Federation, etc. that have the fall and winter seasons to deal with, will realize that relocating to the Philippines or another tropical country is a matter of survival. The powers that be will continue to control, manipulate and dis-inform some of the governments and officials, military-industrial complex, educational institutions and churches. The powers that be will continue to "mismanage" behind the local and global economy - prices of the bunker, gasoline, diesel and aircraft fuels and their application to the transportation vehicles. They will continue to "mismanage" the market and distribution systems for the drinks, foods, health care and medicines, other necessities as well as the national and international communications, and many other high tech but inter-dependent establishments, industries, and their products and/or services. Some cities in the U.S.A. even in the farming counties prohibit the residents or landowners to operate their own poultry and vegetable gardens in their yards.

       The residents in the big and heavily populated Metro Manila and Metro Cebu, for example, will be marooned when, not if, the prophetic very big or super earthquakes, super typhoons and floods, and other natural deadly and destructive forces hit the market-oriented, gasoline and diesel-hungry commuting societies, and the technology-dependent population. Of course the natural destructive forces occurred in the past months, years and decades, and they will occur again, again and again in the next several months, years and decades.

       We just had the Typhoon "Sendong" which killed over 1500 residents and devastated thousands of homes and other buildings in Cagayan de Oro City, Iligan City, and few other cities and towns in northern Mindanao and Negros in western Visayas in mid-December 2011. Typhoon Nalgae, locally known as Quiel, hit in the first week of October 2011, which followed the path over the devastation left by Typhoon Nesat (locally known as "Pedring") on September 2011 across northern and central Luzon. Sixteen provinces were affected by Typhoon Nalgae in 4 regions, which were hit 4 days earlier by Typhoon Nesat (Pedring) which affected 34 provinces. A total of 59 people died and around 1.5 million children were affected by both typhoons. During the first 2 weeks of January 2011, many Filipinos died in several provinces nationwide in addition to the Typhoon "Juan" which ravaged in the 3rd week of October 2010 in northern Luzon, and the unforgettable typhoons "Ondoy" and "Pepeng" in September and October 2009 which killed over 1,000 fellow Filipinos in Metro Manila and the northern provinces of Luzon.

       One radio show host, Sherry Shriner, said that "You have been warned. Guard yourselves, protect yourselves, and seek the Most High for what He wants you to do or where He wants you to go. He has given us time to prepare, which means it probably won't get really bad until ... but listen to Him as He leads and guides you and ask Him to lead and guide your thoughts. Learn how He leads or speaks to your heart, learn to recognize His voice and leading and ask Him to teach you how. We have time to prepare, so prepare. If you are in the cities start planning to get out of them. Try to become more self-reliant and less-reliant on mainstream society... We have more wars coming, famines, plagues, civil unrest, natural disasters and that's just the beginning. We are heading into the days of tribulation.  Be prepared and ready to listen to Yah [Jesus] and what He leads you to do." Mrs. Shriner has over 3 million hits per month in her websites, and over 160 countries that listen to her radio ministry!

To avoid the Mark of the Beast and to survive the Great Tribulation

       Mr. David McKay, who is the co-founder of the Jesus Christian communities which are located in Australia, England, America and Kenya, wrote these excellent observations on intentional or self-sustainable community:

       "On the other extreme is the ask-Jesus-into-your-heart approach. These people do nothing practical. They get ready to die; but they do little or nothing about changing their present lifestyle. You don't need Bible prophecy to tell you that it is important to get right with God before you die. But if the prophecies are going to be fulfilled in the near future, then there must be something practical that we should be doing to prepare for them now.

"Listen to the Lamb!

       "The answer lies in a broader understanding of prophecy. The full name of the last book of the Bible is The Revelation of Jesus Christ. And the opening verses tell us that it is a revelation given specifically to the servants of Jesus Christ. If you are not ready to serve (i.e. obey) Jesus, you will never find solutions to problems predicted in the Revelation.

       "The Revelation features a Lamb and a Beast. The Beast (the final world dictator) appears to have total power over the inhabitants of the earth; but the Lamb (Jesus) conquers the Beast in the end. Unless people are motivated to study and obey the teachings of the Lamb, they will never be able to escape the mark of the Beast. The passage about the mark goes on to say that it is somehow related to the 'name of the Beast' or the number of his name, which is 666.

       "Computer bar codes include three identical pairs of lines at the left, right and centre of the lines representing the number of the product you are buying. These three pairs of lines are slightly longer than the others, and in the most widely used coding system, they are the two lines that represent the number six.

       "Three sixes keep popping up at each stage of the move toward a cashless society. Bankcard featured three sixes inside of each other (one red, one orange, and one yellow) which supposedly represented the letter 'b'. The Keycard turned the six on its side and said it was a key. (See Revelation 13:16-18)

"Wiser than Solomon?

       "We turned to the Bible to unravel the mystery of the number. Looking for the number 666 elsewhere in the Bible, we found it in I Kings 10:14 where it says the amount of gold that came to King Solomon in one year was 666 talents (about 25 tons!).

       "The Lamb (Jesus) referred to the events of this same chapter twice in his teachings: once when he said his teachings were greater than Solomon's wisdom, and yet the Queen of Sheba came to hear Solomon's wisdom, giving him all this gold in appreciation (Matthew 12:42); and once when he said that all of Solomon's wealth could not compare with what God could provide for those who would stop working for money and start working for God (Matthew 6:24-30). Jesus obviously expected people to listen to him in preference to Solomon.

"The Prostitute and the Bride

       "Two other characters in The Revelation are a Prostitute, called Babylon (Revelation 17:1-5) and a Bride, called Jerusalem (Revelation 21:1-10). In the Gospels Jesus called this Bride the 'kingdom from heaven'. And he taught that God would provide the basic needs of anyone whose first goal in life was to promote this kingdom. (Matthew 6:31-33) Babylon as such is not mentioned in the gospels. Instead, Jesus says we have a choice between working for God or working for money. (Matthew 6:24) He says to give God what belongs to God and give Caesar what belongs to Caesar (Matthew 22:19-21), and suggests that money is all that Caesar has been able to create, whereas real wealth comes from his Father. He says that God's children owe the Caesars of the world nothing. (Matthew 17:24-26 KJV)

       "The greatest achievement of the Babylonian Empire was the invention of money. Throughout the centuries the spirit of Babylon has developed new ways to make it easier for the world's Solomons to move their tons of gold around. The electronic Mark spoken of in The Revelation is just the consummation of it all.

"So what do we do?

       "Our response to the warnings of the Revelation are quite simple. We start obeying Jesus by learning to live by faith right now, working for God rather than working for money. St. John said, 'You have heard that the Antichrist will come, but even now there are many antichrists.' (I John 2:18) And just as we have heard that the Mark will come, even now there are many 'marks'. (What does Germany call its money?)

       "If we continue to put our faith in money, and to work for it, we play right into the hands of the Antichrist. We can say we will refuse to take the final mark when it comes, but we will almost certainly use the same excuses for taking it then as we use for disobeying everything else that Jesus said about money now.

       "Revelation 7:3-8 says that God's people also have a mark, and Jesus refers to this in John 6:27, when he says, 'Do not work for the food that perishes.' Jesus says our refusal to worry about material needs will set us apart from the rest of the world (Matthew 6:31-33) But the churches say, 'We would starve if we took that literally.'

       "Jesus says, 'Sell what you own and give to the poor,' (Luke 12:33) and they say, 'He will forgive us if we don't follow that rule.' Jesus says, 'If you don't forsake everything that you own, you cannot be one of my followers,' (Luke 14:33) and they say, 'Times have changed. It won't work in today's world.' Jesus says, 'Teach others to obey all that I have said,' (Matthew 28:19-20) and they say, 'Nobody else is doing it, so why should we?'

       "So when he says, 'Whoever receives the mark will feel the full strength of God's wrath,' (Revelation 14:9-11) those who boast now that they will never take it will say, 'We got away with disobeying everything else Jesus said. Why not ignore this one too.'

       "To sum it up, there is going to be a world government, and it is going to bring in a universal mark that will greatly improve the efficiency of banking, law enforcement, immigration, and related fields. Eventually the government will turn nasty and will execute literally millions of people. But that could be a long way down the track. In the meantime this new government and the new economic system it institutes is going to be a massive improvement on anything we have at the moment. No matter what anyone does to protest against the Mark, it will still come. Practically everyone will accept it, and you will almost certainly be one of those who does.

       "The only exceptions will be those who have taken the teachings of Jesus very seriously. If you are not more interested in knowing what Jesus taught than the Queen of Sheba was in knowing the wisdom of Solomon (Remember, she paid tons of gold to hear what he had to say.) then forget about it. You are pretty well destined to take the mark anyway, and you may as well eat, drink, and be merry until the end comes.

       "Of course if you are interested in following the teachings of Jesus, you can find them in the first four books of the New Testament (The Gospel According to Matthew, The Gospel According to Mark, The Gospel According to Luke, and The Gospel According to John). Study them (and obey them) like your eternal life depends on it. Because it does."

The remnant of the New Testament Church

       The world's churches and congregations have no proofs that the founders of their churches or congregations had the direct connection or unbroken chain of command to the original New Testament Church in Jerusalem. The history books and encylopedia, even the Central Intelligence Agency have the facts: Armenia is the first country in the world to adopt Christianity as her official religion. It's not Italy or Vatican City. Why not follow the much older Armenian Apostolic Church or the Eastern Orthodox Church which has over 300 million members internationally?

       Thus, almost 2000 years later after the founding of the New Testament Church on the Day of Pentecost in 31 A.D./C.E., millions and millions of the Messianics, Christians, charismatic followers, other religious groups and individuals are still living way down below the poverty level. When modern "Christian" churches do not apply the lifestyles of the original New Testament Church, they could end up filing for bankruptcy. To avoid filing for bankruptcy, the so-called Christian churches, congregations and/or organizations must learn from the excellent examples on self-sustainable community living of the Hutterian Brethren, Amish, some Mennonites, other religious groups in America, Canada, and few other countries.

       The Hutterites came to North America from Eastern Europe in the 1870s to escape religious persecution. They "originated in 16th century Europe during the Reformation period when the Holy Spirit of God was stirring the hearts of those who were yearning for holiness. On January 21, 1525, a Bible study group in Zurich, Switzerland, met in the home of Felix Manz to study the issue of infant baptism. A fear came over them which pressed within their hearts. They bowed their knees in prayer to the Most High God in Heaven that He would show them His divine way and have mercy on them. After prayer, George Blaurock got up and asked Conrad Grebel to baptize him. Blaurock then baptized the others. Thus they were led to renounce infant baptism as unbiblical. They renewed the practice of the believer's baptism.

       "These radical disciples of Christ were originally known as the Swiss Brethren and also as Anabaptists. They were immediately severely persecuted by that enemy of God, the Old Serpent, acting through his servants, so that many of those courageous children of God were martyred for their faith. Their call to complete surrender to God was rejected by the worldly church. The Catholic, Lutheran, and Reformed Churches all took part in the persecution of the Anabaptist brethren.

       "The persecution was so severe that the believers had to flee and hide in the forests. At one point, in the year 1528, a group of believers were in a desperate situation. The leader of the group put his coat on the ground and called for everyone to place all their money on the coat to be used for the common good. This act began the restoration of the practice of the community of goods, which was first taught by Jesus and His apostles and described in the Book of Acts (2:42)."

       Their belief system is based on strict interpretation of the Holy Bible. The "Hutterites are the oldest continuous communal religious order in the United States, having originally settled in South Dakota in 1874. From that base, South Dakota has become home to the largest number of Hutterites in the country, with about 54 colonies and 6,000 residents. Montana is not far behind with 50 colonies and 4,000 residents. Minnesota's eight colonies and North Dakota's six have largely formed since the 1980s. All totaled, there are about 460 Hutterite colonies with 40,000 residents spread across North America, concentrated in Great Plains states, the Pacific Northwest and Canada."

       As a self-sustainable community, the Body of Elohim or Yahushua can create their own sources of incomes. For instance, they can mass produce the free energy motors as one of their lifetime contributions to the same habitat as most of the Earth's 7 billion people have:

       "The World Health Organization estimates that 4.6 million people die each year from causes directly attributable to air pollution. Many of these mortalities are attributable to indoor air pollution. Worldwide more deaths per year are linked to air pollution than to automobile accidents."  Ten million children die annually from hunger and malnutrition. Over 1.02 billion people are hungry around the Earth!

       The biggest problem is that over 99% of the "Christian" churches, congregations, assemblies, charismatic movements, Messianic groups, Bible Study classes, and other Christian organizations in our country and globally do not apply and practice the Biblical principles on daily living and working. As you well know, the established and world famous Christian church founded in Rome and its millions and millions of followers as well as their Protestants (in surrounding countries in the Mediterranean, Africa, Europe, Scandinavia, Canada, U.S.A., Central and South America, Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines and many other Christian nations) do not follow the teachings and practices on self-sustainability of the New Testament Church.

       Whereas, the original New Testament Church applied the self-sustainable lifestyle, as described in Acts 2:44-45; 4:32-35, which is being practiced today by few religious and secular groups and individuals around the world. The unfortunate poor persons in the churches, congregations, assemblies, charismatic movements and other religious organizations need to send "a note to God" asking Him so that the wealthy and blessed Christian members and the religious adherents globally will act on and apply His words. Let us follow the fine examples of Tim Tebow and his family who have been practicing for decades the words in the Holy Bible as clearly commanded, not suggested, and in other religious books and references. Let us follow the lifestyle of the original Body of Yahushua or Christ that started on the Day of Pentecost in Jerusalem about 2,000 years ago!
